“Crack” is the sound of something breaking and that is where it all begins: intentionally breaking something that already exists so as to give it new life.
In 2015, the brand Simon Cracker was born from an idea of Simone Botte, a creative director, stylist and fabrics & printing researcher, as an upcycling clothing line in which deadstock, discarded or forgotten pieces were given a second chance.
In 2019, he was joined as co-creative director by Filippo L.M. Biraghi, fashion curator, buyer and fashion culture lecturer and the brand went mainstream, entering the Who is On Next? Competition, joining Altaroma, and being included in Cabera Nazionale della Moda Italiana’s official calendar from 2021 onwards.
Simon Cracker approaches fashion from a divergent point of view; liking individuals not stereotypes, working with few tools so as to foster creativity, giving back to clothes a value related more to the stories they tell than to price.
Choosing upcycling is not an aesthetic or trendy choice, but an ethical one where garments are not seasonal or gender-specific. For Simon Cracker, the goal is to tell the truth about bodies, clothes, identities and peculiarities that at once make us unique, but also part of a community.
Many brands have collaborated with Simon Cracker including Kappa, Ninja Turtles, Bivio, Ragged Kingdom by Jamie Reid, Laboratorio Riciclo Pelle, Ansia, Gaia Segattini Knotwear, Penelope Brescia, DaQuy, The Complainers, Sue Clowes, Dr. Martens, Australian.
