Grounding her work in expression and resilience, Chanel employs abstraction as a device for queer theory, gesture, and somatic motion. Her practice is rooted in movement and muscle-memory, guiding her ever-evolving relationship between herself and the canvas.
Working almost exclusively in large-scale painting, Chanel’s work lives as a physical language expressing her dance with intuition and identity.
As the owner and director of Necessary Arts Collective in Guelph, ON, Chanel has a passion for supporting emerging artists and communities at every step. In targeting early-career creatives, she provides an inclusive, diverse and non-intimidating “bite-sized” step into the world galleries and studio-based practices.
